"Give birds room to live"

At Karma we used to produce a lot of commercials for charitable foundations. They were mostly edits of beautiful nature footage with a logo at the end. We really wanted to do more with motion graphics, but these were not always easy to sell. Vogelbescherming gave us the OK on a concept to use animation in a few of there commercials. Of which this one was our first.

Ripping away nature!

I wanted to literally rip away nature from under the birds. I thought it would look cool, and it would make for a strong image if nature that was once beautiful was suddenly turned into a empty blank page. And especially if the birds would appear threatened and make them react to it. I do have to say that, within a week, i did see to many bird documentaries than I would like to remember. But I do like the end result.

Arno Natte did the music and quickly produced a 30 second track. But than got so inspired that he kept making the music longer and longer. He started writing lyrics and I ended up diving back into extra bird footage to fill all the extra time he needed for the music (thanks again Arno!). I think I had to really veto him at some point, not making it longer than 50 seconds.
